 You Made It Possible!

ILAVA Gives Back partnered with ELIMAA Preprimary School to provide school uniforms for the students. "This is something the parents have been asking for quite a while,” noted Brenda Kimaro, co-founder of the school. “In Tanzania, it’s expected that if a child is in school they’ll have an official school uniform to wear. So, even though the children at ELIMAA were receiving an excellent education and excelling academically, it just didn’t quite feel legitimate to the parents.” One of the kids shared with our director during her visit in November 2015 she would love to have school uniforms so she can look like a student.

It was in this moment that ILAVA Gives Back made a decision to provide the students with their very first school uniforms. Designed by ILAVA co-founder Rahel Mwitula Williams, the uniforms were distributed in time for Parents’ Day at the school.

ELIMAA School serves families in Kwamorombo, a poor community outside of Arusha, Tanzania. The school provides low- or no-cost education to pre-primary students (ages 4-7) whose families struggle meeting their basic daily needs. Many of the ELIMAA students were not previously attending school because their parents could not afford it.
